Joseph Silk Inaugurates Cluster Symposium
The Excellence Cluster Universe has won Prof. Joseph Silk as opening speaker for the symposium “Symmetries and Phases in the Universe” taking place from 23-25 June 2008 in Kloster Irsee, Germany. Since 1999 Joseph Silk has been chairman of the Astrophysics Department at the University of Oxford, following a 30-year-career at the University of California, Berkeley. Silk is one of the most renowned scientists in cosmology and lent his name to the effect of Silk Damping causing the homogenization of the cosmic background radiation.
“We are excited that Joseph Silk will come to Kloster Irsee and give the introductory speech of our Symposium”, said Scientific Coordinator and SOC member Andreas Müller. “As one of the most influential astrophysicists he’s the ideal person to open this interdisciplinary event that will cover a broad range of cosmic research and provide latest scientific insights."
