Abstract
We clarify our derivation of the Mandelstam–Tamm time–energy uncertainty relation for neutrino oscillations presented in Bilenky et al (2008 J. Phys. G: Nucl. Part. Phys. 35 095003) and refute critiques of our paper given in the contribution by Akhmedov et al (2009 J. Phys. G: Nucl. Part. Phys. 36 078001). We demonstrate that the inequality _s13_s17916_s19E _s13_s178805_s19 |E3 _s13_s178722_s19 E2| obtained by Akhmedov et al (2009 J. Phys. G: Nucl. Part. Phys. 36 078001) cannot be interpreted as a time–energy uncertainty relation.
