Abstract
The recoil-shadow projection method that allows to identify short-lived (picosecond) fission isomers in actinide nuclei was optimized by developing an online monitoring system of the target surface based on a capacitance measurement. Using nuclear track detector, 234U was studied via the 232Th(alpha,2n) reaction. Indications for the existence of a new fission isomer with a halflife below 50ps was found.
