Abstract

Hyperdeformed subbarrier rotational bands have been identified in the fission probability of 232U. They could be described with K=4 and K=5 rotational bands. Theoretical and measured angular fission fragment angular correlations are compared. Fission barrier parameters for 232U could be extracted from a fit to the fission probability, resulting in a deep third potential minimum also for 232U in agreement with previous results in the Uranium isotopic chain and as expected from theoretcial predictions.
