Almost 99% of the heavy element nucleosynthesis beyond iron can be explained via neutron captures on long (s process) and short (r process) timescales. However, more than 30 stable isotopes on the proton-rich side between Se-74 and Hg-196 cannot be produced in that way, and an alternative process called "p process" was postulated.

Our present understanding of the "p process" is that of a superposition of several mechanisms: a "gamma process" along with contributions from the "rp-process" and the ("nu-p"/"nu") neutrino-induced processes.

This workshop will bring together experimentalists, theoreticians, and stellar modellers to discuss about actual problems and achievements in the field of p-process nucleosynthesis.
